Ok heres a fun one ive spent hours trying to figure out.... Adrenalyn got a new processor and MB a few months back, probelm is i discovered that windows isnt correctly displaying the speed which i think may impact her PCs preformance, Its an AMD athlon 64 3200+ which should clock at 2 GB but instead wondows displays it at only 999MHz. The bios recognizes the chip and speed, the AMD input program has checked the CPU itself and identified it correctly, even windows knows what it is, jsut the speed is wrong, u thnk this could impact the preformance of the CPU and anythign else i can do to fix it? thnx guys.

Where are you looking for the speed in Windows? Right click on My Computer...what does it say at the bottom under "Computer"? USe CPUZ to confirm your CPU clock settings: www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php------------------------------------ I found some problems regarding amd. "A friend of mine had a brand new laptop with an AMD 64 and his also read much lower than it was stated as. I do not think that Windows listing it at 999MHz means that there is a problem. We contacted the vendor and I they reassured us that all was well, as the 64 bits will be measured differently in Windows XP. Look around for information on this from AMD or MS, as I believe it's a common occurence."

I believe your problem is that your computer is set to run in CnQ mode (Cool and Quiet). This will limit your speed to 999Mhz, no matter how high your hardware is capable of running, and yes, it will alter the performance of your system.
If you want to disable it, go into your BIOS and see if there is an option there such as DISABLE COOL AND QUIET SUPPORT. If you have a ASUS board, it is on the first BIOS page. I am not sure where it is located on other systems, you just have to look around for it. I run Intel Chips on Intel boards, so what do I know about anything else?
If you can not find it, try doing this in Windows:
1. Go to Control Panel
2. Go to Performance and Maintenance
3. Go to Power Options
4. Adjust your power scheme from Minimal Power Management to any other setting. This should will prevent CnQ from functioning and your speed should be displayed correctly (probably after reboot).
You can google "disable cool and quiet" and you will get a wealth of information. Hope this helps.

Uh, that would be a big negative buddy! Believe it or not, I do know a few things about computers. I am not a big OS guy, meaning programs are not my specialty, but I have had some experience building computers and getting them to run. We put a new MB and AMD chip in friend's computer about a year ago and we had to puzzle this one out too.

Oh, and by the way, I do not have "secret agent" friends...OK, well maybe a few. The majority of my friends are cops and "Special Agents", because when you're a cop, you need all the backup you can get. Of course, there are you crazy bastards as well!

Well, beating people up is not what I am about. I think someone who enjoys inflicting hurt upon other people has serious problems. I am more a "protector". Yes, sometimes it involves violence, but it is always done legally and with the intent of protecting the innocent.
